Dean Rohrer grew up in rural Pennsylvania, the son of artist Warren Rohrer and poet Jane Rohrer. He attended Phillips Academy Andover and Harvard. At Harvard he studied Art History and drew for the Harvard Lampoon.
Through his 20's and early 30's he drew for pleasure while pursuing a career in songwriting. His compositions have appeared in major film soundtracks, the MTV television series Liquid Television, and several national GM television commercials.
When he married he began his visual art career. His illustrations have appeared in the New Yorker, Harper's, Men's Health, Print Magazine, Utne Reader, Details, Spin, Spy, the Smithsonian and elsewhere. His op ed work has appeared in The New York Times, LA Times, Washington Post, Boston Globe, Philadelphia Inquirer, Chicago Tribune and hundreds of other papers in the US, Canada, Europe, Latin America, and Asia.
Other clients include Simon & Schuster Books, Oxford University Press, University of Georgia Press, Fantagraphics Books, and Fleer Cards for the NFL, NBA and Major League Baseball.
Additional work in the comic book field includes a stint inking the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for Archie Comics, and pencil and ink work for Dark Horse Comics.
Dean lives with his wife and two daughters in the Philadelphia area where he spends his free time renovating an old house, walling, and oil painting.
